In-Person Program Overview
A class trip to the Center for the Urban River at Beczak is an educational experience your students will never forget.
Through observation, exploration, and discovery, our education programs connect children to the natural world. We utilize an interdisciplinary approach to environmental education using the Hudson River and community as our classroom. All programs align with New York and Next Generation Science Standards and incorporate inquiry-based, experiential learning for students of all ages.
Our program repertoire is always growing. If you do not see something you are looking for or need help customizing the programs with your education goals, just ask!
Lunch Accommodations:
Most groups eat lunch at our Center before or after a program. Weather-depending you can picnic in the park or eat indoors in the classroom space. There are benches around the park or you can bring blankets to sit on.
Parking:
The Center has a parking lot for additional visitors and space for buses.
Inclement Weather:
To ensure the safety of our visitors and staff, SLC CURB reserves the right to modify, postpone, cancel or reschedule any programming due to inclement weather.
Additionally, Sarah Lawrence College may delay entrance or conduct campus closures. CURB will also follow announced procedures.
Inclement weather occurrences can include, but are not limited to:
- Air temperature or a heat index more than 95 degrees Fahrenheit
- Air quality index higher than 150, labeled as “Unhealthy” by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and in some cases, higher than 100 if we have programming with sensitive groups
- Past or concurrent rainfall that would likely cause a combined sewage overflow at the nearby wastewater treatment plant
- Thunderstorms
- Snow storms
Reserving your program:
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required if you are booking 3 months in advance. The remaining balance is due no later than 2 weeks before the program date.
Many of the outdoor riverfront programs are dependent on the tides and spaces are limited so please inquire early to schedule your visit. This includes “Catch of the Day” Seining and Wetland Wonders programs.
